Human Remains Found in Search for Missing Teen

Police in Prince Albert announced the discovery of human remains on Thursday while searching for a missing teenager who disappeared in June. The search for 14-year-old Peyton Flett, last seen in mid-June, involved assistance from the city’s public works and fire departments, as well as the Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue team. The body was found in the vicinity of the 300 block of 40th Street East, leading to an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday to ascertain the individual’s identity and the circumstances surrounding their death.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the suspicious death with collaboration between the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service and the police major crimes and forensic identification units. Before the grim discovery, a news conference was held on Wednesday involving the police, Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents appealing to the public for any information that could aid in locating her. The last known sighting of Flett was reported on June 16 or 17 near Marquis Road and Central Avenue close to the Northern Lights Casino.

Law enforcement officials are currently on-site at the wooded area near 40th Street where the body was located, leading to anticipated traffic restrictions in the area. Authorities are advising people to avoid the location as investigations continue. Additional details will be shared as soon as they are made available.
