“Virgin Media Slashes Gig1 Broadband Price to £26.99”

Virgin Media has recently announced a significant price drop on its fastest broadband package, the Gig1 Fibre Broadband. This ultra-fast service, boasting speeds of up to 1,130Mbps, typically priced at £29.99 per month, is now available at a discounted rate of £26.99. Customers signing up for this offer can save a total of £72 over the 24-month contract period, translating to approximately 87p per day.

According to Virgin Media, this promotional price marks the lowest ever offered for the Gig1 plan. With such high speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.

While this deal presents an attractive option for those seeking top-tier internet speeds, it comes with a caveat. Virgin Media has disclosed that the discounted rate will see two incremental increases during the minimum term, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, not all households in the UK can access the 1,130Mbps speeds, necessitating a check of availability through Virgin’s postcode checker.

Comparatively, Virgin’s Gig1 offer outshines its competitors such as Sky, which reduced its 900Mbps plan to £28 but remains pricier and slower. BT, another major player, charges £37.99 for its 900Mbps connection. However, exploring alternative network providers, including emerging alt-nets undercutting established brands on pricing, could yield cost savings.

For instance, Community Fibre currently provides 1Gbps speeds at £25 per month, with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract. Nevertheless, Community Fibre’s coverage is limited to London and select south-east locations. It’s essential for consumers to assess their speed requirements before committing to a broadband plan. For a couple streaming Netflix daily, 100Mbps should suffice, while larger households engaged in remote work, streaming, and gaming may need speeds of at least 300Mbps.

Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre service is akin to having a high-speed expressway directly into your home, ensuring seamless connectivity for various online activities.
