Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk clinched the bronze medal at the World Triathlon Championship Series event held in Weihai, China. The 32-year-old athlete from Oak Bluff, Manitoba, completed the race in one hour, 41 minutes, and 25 seconds. While Switzerland’s Max Studer secured the gold with a time of 1:41:08, Spain’s David Campero Del Campo took the silver, finishing seven seconds ahead of Mislawchuk.
Mislawchuk began with a strong performance, swimming 1.5 kilometers in 18:39, followed by a 38.6-kilometer bike ride completed in 51:53. He then finished the race with a 10-kilometer run in 29:35. Expressing his excitement, Mislawchuk stated, “It’s been seven years of close calls, but nothing compares to standing on the WTCS podium alongside the world’s best athletes. I seized an opportunity today and made my move three kilometers into the run. The last five kilometers were a test of my daily training, and it feels incredible to perform at this elite level.”
Unfortunately, fellow Canadian Liam Donnelly did not finish the race. In the women’s competition, Canada’s Desirae Ridenour achieved an eighth-place finish, matching her career-best from the previous season. The 26-year-old athlete from Cowichan Bay, British Columbia, completed all three legs of the race in 1:50:58.
The women’s gold medal was claimed by France’s Cassandre Beaugrand in 1:49:20, followed by Beth Potter from Great Britain in second place with a time of 1:49:26, and Germany’s Lisa Tertsch securing third place in 1:49:44. Emy Legault from L’Île Perrot, Quebec, finished 30th with a time of 1:55:54.
