“Russian Airstrikes in Kyiv Kill 12, Injure Many”

Russian airstrikes in Kyiv and its vicinity resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals and injuries to several others early on Tuesday, marking the sixth consecutive day of attacks on the Ukrainian capital. Since commencing a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has intensified its air assaults on the country in recent months, especially as its advancements on the battlefield have significantly slowed down.

Over the past five days, Kyiv and neighboring areas have been plagued by swarms of drones, leading to casualties, property destruction, and disruptions to daily life. These drones, equipped with jet engines, pose a challenge in interception due to their advanced technology. The continuous attacks have forced millions to adapt to extended air-raid warnings disrupting their routines.

The situation escalated with more explosions heard in Kyiv on Tuesday morning, according to a witness from Reuters. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported that Russian drones and ballistic missiles targeted residential zones and railway infrastructure in the intense overnight strikes. He called on Ukraine’s allies to increase economic pressure on Russia and explore the utilization of Russia’s frozen assets abroad to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.

Amid the ongoing attacks, eight people, including railway workers, were killed during overnight assaults in Kyiv, while three individuals were injured in a daytime drone strike causing a fire at a high-rise apartment building. Additionally, in Boryspil near Kyiv, four people lost their lives, including an Indian citizen, and 13 others were injured in an attack on a residential building and other locations.

The Russian strikes extended to a border crossing with Romania in Odesa, affecting electricity supply for numerous families, as reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On the other side, Ukraine retaliated by targeting Russian oil refineries and logistics infrastructure, including warehouses of online retailers, reflecting an escalation in the conflict.

In response to the escalating situation, Ukraine’s air force managed to intercept five ballistic missiles during the recent attacks. It was revealed that Kyiv had received a limited quantity of Patriot interceptors to bolster its defense capabilities. Despite efforts to engage in peace talks, discussions have stalled as Ukraine rejects Russian territorial demands and the U.S. focuses on other international conflicts.

Estonia’s defense forces reported that drones used in a Ukrainian strike against Russia briefly entered Estonian airspace, emphasizing the importance of supporting Ukraine with air defense resources. Meanwhile, Russia’s defense ministry stated that military and energy facilities in Kyiv, Odesa, and surrounding regions were targeted in the recent assaults.

President Zelenskyy disclosed a productive conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoys, highlighting ongoing efforts to finalize plans for a visit to Ukraine. The developments underscore the dire situation in Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia.
