Khachanov Upsets Auger-Aliassime in U.S. Open

Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada exited the U.S. Open on Wednesday after losing his second-round match to Russia’s Karen Khachanov in four sets. Auger-Aliassime, the No. 3 seed, claimed the first set in a tiebreak but then dropped the following three sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Khachanov, ranked 50th globally, showed a steady performance despite not being exceptional, capitalizing on Auger-Aliassime’s struggles. He broke Auger-Aliassime’s serve seven times and saved seven out of nine break points he faced to secure his second top-10 win in a Grand Slam event.

Auger-Aliassime initially took a lead in the first set but faltered due to errors, allowing Khachanov to turn the tide. Khachanov dominated the subsequent sets, displaying confidence in his shots and eventually sealing the match with a strong serve.

Looking ahead, Khachanov will face the winner between Benjamin Bonzi of France or Ignacio Buse of Peru. In other U.S. Open matches, several top players like Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, and Alexander Zverev advanced to the next rounds, while some seeded players faced unexpected early exits, adding excitement and surprises to the tournament.
