IOC Stresses “Fair Play” Amid US VP Booing at Winter Olympics

The IOC has addressed the incident involving US Vice President JD Vance being booed during the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, emphasizing the importance of “fair play” and highlighting the organization’s positive relationship with the American government.

Vance, leading the US delegation, faced boos from the crowd as the US team entered the San Siro stadium, overshadowing the initial cheers from the audience.

IOC spokesperson Mark Adams, in response to the incident, expressed satisfaction with the US administration’s active involvement in the Games, especially with the upcoming Games in Los Angeles. He stressed the significance of fair treatment and support for all athletes, emphasizing the importance of a strong relationship with the administration.

Regarding the booing directed at Israeli athletes, the IOC urged all spectators to maintain respectful behavior, emphasizing the value of sportsmanship and support for athletes irrespective of their nationality or background.

The IOC emphasized that athletes should not be penalized for their governments’ actions, highlighting the essence of appreciating athletic performances as a reflection of humanity.

Vance arrived in Milan before the Opening Ceremony, engaging with American athletes and attending the US women’s ice hockey match against Czechia. He also had a positive meeting with IOC President Kirsty Coventry, reflecting good chemistry and enthusiasm for the Games from the American administration.
