Elections Alberta Addresses Voter Concerns Over Registration Status
Elections Alberta issued a statement on Friday to alleviate worries among voters in the province regarding the security of their information. The Chief Electoral Officer, Gordon McClure, emphasized that voter information stored in Voterlink is secure and no voter registrations have been deleted without consent, contrary to circulating social media posts.
The announcement came in response to online speculations from Albertans who noticed their names missing from Voterlink, the online voter registration tool provided by Elections Alberta. The agency clarified that some individuals might face difficulties accessing their details due to input errors.
Furthermore, Elections Alberta highlighted a surge in misinformation circulating on social media platforms in light of the upcoming October referendum. McClure emphasized that false claims about voter registrations are spreading as part of a deliberate effort to create doubt surrounding the referendum.
The agency identified common issues causing obstacles for individuals trying to view their voter registration information. It advised voters to ensure accurate input of their last name matching their ID, correctly format postal codes, and avoid using autofill. If individuals continue to experience problems accessing their status, they are urged to contact Elections Alberta at 780-427-7191.
