Country music icon Dolly Parton dies at 80

Dolly Parton, a revered country music icon known for her talent, honesty, and charitable work, has passed away at the age of 80. Her family confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday.

Describing her as an inspiration, Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, expressed how she paved the way for endless possibilities and achievements. Parton peacefully passed away in Nashville after bravely battling cancer, as confirmed by her publicist Marcel Pariseau.

Born in the Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains in 1946, Dolly Rebecca Parton grew up in a musical family and humble beginnings. Parton often recounted her childhood performances on the front porch, where she sang songs to an audience of children, ducks, and chickens.

At the age of 10, Parton wrote her first single, “Puppy Love,” and began her journey to Nashville with her uncle, Bill Owens, a country music songwriter. Despite facing financial challenges in the music industry, Parton diversified her ventures to ensure financial stability and success.

In 1986, Parton realized her dream by opening the Dollywood theme park, showcasing her heritage and inviting visitors to experience the beauty of the Smoky Mountains. Throughout her career, she achieved numerous milestones, including writing over 3,000 songs and starring in successful films.

Parton’s legacy extends beyond music, as she actively supported various causes and initiatives. She celebrated diversity, provided millions of books to children through her Imagination Library, and made significant donations to charitable endeavors, including climate relief and medical research.

With 49 studio albums and a multitude of awards to her name, Parton mentored and inspired generations of artists in the music industry. Her influence transcended music, as evidenced by her godmother role to Miley Cyrus and recognition on Time magazine’s influential list.

Despite her fame, Parton maintained a private life with her husband, Carl Dean. Following Dean’s passing in 2025, Parton expressed gratitude for their enduring love of over 60 years. She continued to prioritize her health and well-being, focusing on medical issues and releasing her final collaborative album in 2024.

Dolly Parton’s indelible mark on music, philanthropy, and culture will be remembered for generations to come, encapsulating the essence of her enduring legacy: “Until we meet again, keep the music in your heart and the mountains in your soul.”
