Family, friends, and community members gathered at the Sisters in Spirit monument along the North Saskatchewan River in Prince Albert to commemorate what would have been Peyton Flett’s 15th birthday. The evening vigil featured a birthday cake, with attendees singing “Happy Birthday” as Flett’s parents blew out the candles.
The gathering followed the recent confirmation by the police that the remains found during a search last week belonged to the missing teenager, who had been absent since June 30. Her mother, Danica Moore, expressed her desire for people to remember her daughter beyond the tragic circumstances of her death. Moore described Flett as gentle, strong, and independent, highlighting her love for the color purple, reading, drawing, and playing Roblox with her siblings. Flett also harbored a dream of exploring the world, with New York being a desired destination.
Flett’s remains were discovered near the 300 block of 40th Street East last Thursday, leading to an autopsy confirming her identity on Tuesday. The major crimes unit of the Prince Albert Police Service is currently investigating her death. Police Chief Patrick Nogier, present at the vigil, extended condolences to Flett’s family and assured ongoing collaboration with First Nations and community leaders during the investigation.
Danica Moore concluded the evening with a heartfelt message to fellow parents, emphasizing the importance of cherishing every moment with their children, regardless of their mood.
