“New AMO President Brockington and FCM Leader Tierney Unite for Municipal Progress”

Riley Brockington, newly appointed as president of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), expressed optimism about collaborating with fellow Ottawa city councillor Tim Tierney, who leads the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Brockington, who served on AMO’s board of directors for eight years, succeeded Westport Mayor Robin Jones in his new role, representing over 400 Ontario municipalities.

Tierney, heading a municipal advocacy group with nearly 2,000 member municipalities across Canada, aims to work hand in hand with Brockington. The duo’s cooperation is geared towards addressing pressing city-level issues efficiently during a crucial period.

Brockington’s appointment signals a pivotal moment for AMO, with the focus on leveraging the collective strength of provincial and federal associations to tackle challenges faced by municipalities in Ontario and nationwide. In the lead-up to assuming his new position, Brockington engaged in a nine-month campaign, engaging with various municipal leaders to understand and address their concerns effectively.

Speaking on the importance of AMO’s role, Brockington emphasized the need for a unified voice to engage with provincial and federal representatives and stakeholders to advance municipal interests. The collaborative efforts of Brockington and Tierney are aimed at enhancing the support for municipalities across the province and the country.
