A’ja Wilson led the Las Vegas Aces to victory with 27 points and eight rebounds, while Jackie Young contributed 23 points and eight assists without any turnovers. Chelsea Gray added 11 points as the Aces secured a 93-73 win over the Toronto Tempo on Friday night.
This game marked the Aces’ first without NaLyssa Smith, who sustained a season-ending left leg injury in their previous match against Toronto, which they won 88-78.
Isabelle Harrison led Toronto with 15 points, followed by Laura Juskaite with 14 points, Kia Nurse with 12 points, and Kiki Rice and Kiana Williams each scoring 10 points off the bench.
The Aces (27-13) maintained their one-game lead for third place in the WNBA playoff race after defeating Toronto, while Indiana (26-14) secured a 111-91 victory over Connecticut.
Jackie Young’s 3-pointer broke an early tie, and the Aces held the lead for the rest of the game, finishing the first quarter ahead 27-17. They shot 10 for 20, including 6-of-12 from beyond the arc, while Toronto committed nine turnovers in the first quarter.
Las Vegas continued their strong shooting in the second quarter, entering halftime with a 56-39 lead. Despite a slight drop in three-point shooting efficiency, shooting 1-for-6 in the second quarter, the Aces maintained a 50% overall shooting percentage (18-for-36).
Toronto struggled with personal fouls, committing 12 in the first half, allowing the Aces to capitalize by making 13 of 14 free throws.
Next up, the Toronto Tempo will face the Phoenix Mercury, while the Las Vegas Aces will visit the Seattle Storm on Thursday, Sept. 17.
