“Toronto Author Carley Fortune Announces New Novel ‘Only in Summer’ Launching May 18, 2027”

Toronto-based author Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth novel, titled “Only in Summer,” is set to be launched on May 18, 2027. The book revisits the familiar town of Barry’s Bay, Ont., where the author’s previous works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” were also set.

In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement about owning a cottage near Barry’s Bay, a dream she had after selling her family home by the lake. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, shares a similar aspiration. Ellie, the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier novels, always dreamt of owning property in Barry’s Bay. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when a neighboring house is demolished for a grander construction project.

While details about the storyline are limited, it is hinted that a captivating romance will unfold in the picturesque lakeside backdrop. Fortune, an accomplished writer and former editor for various publications, including Refinery29 and The Globe and Mail, has previously penned successful books such as “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a notable finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show. Furthermore, the adaptation of Fortune’s works into television series, like “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video and the upcoming Netflix adaptation of “This Summer Will Be Different,” showcases her growing influence in the entertainment industry.
