“Teen’s Hotdog Stand Raises $21K for Make-A-Wish”

A Cape Breton teenager, assisted by a modest hotdog stand and numerous contributions, managed to raise $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada. Jake Campbell, a 13-year-old, along with his family, sold hotdogs over the recent weekend, utilizing supplies provided by No Frills and Wonder Bread.

In a conversation with Information Morning Cape Breton, Campbell mentioned that they had raised $3,000 the previous year through hotdog sales. He expressed his goal to double that amount for this year, which they successfully achieved. Their hotdog stand was set up in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S.

Apart from the proceeds from hotdog sales, additional monetary donations were also received. Hollie Quick, a senior development officer at Make-A-Wish Canada’s Nova Scotia chapter, commended the overwhelming support from the Sydney community.

Last year, when Campbell and his family fundraised, he was recognized with an award dedicated to a wish child who had passed away. Quick noted that this recognition likely inspired Campbell to significantly increase his efforts this year.

With the funds raised by the Campbells, the foundation is now in a position to fulfill the wishes of the 81 children on their list in Nova Scotia. These wishes have ranged from creating accessible spaces in homes to organizing family trips.

Campbell expressed his satisfaction in supporting the foundation, emphasizing that it impacts not just the children but the entire family. He mentioned having ambitious plans for the next fundraising endeavor, although the exact proportion of funds from hotdog sales this year remains unknown.
