“Team GB Makes History with Multiple Winter Olympics Golds”

Tabby Stoecker was deeply moved upon winning a gold medal at her debut Winter Olympics in the skeleton mixed team event with men’s individual champion Matt Weston. Surpassing their previous silver medals at two World Championships, the pair set a track record of 1:59.36. Weston overcame a 0.30-second deficit from Stoecker’s run to win by 0.17 seconds.

Weston continued his winning streak from Friday to become a double Olympic champion. This feat has only been achieved previously by Lizzy Yarnold, a two-time women’s skeleton winner. Team GB had a remarkable day with Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale securing Britain’s first snowboard cross mixed team gold, marking the first time Team GB won multiple gold medals at a Winter Olympics, let alone on the same day.

For Stoecker, this victory marked her first major world-level win since joining British Skeleton through the Discover Your Gold talent identification program. Speaking before the medal ceremony, Stoecker expressed her gratitude and disbelief at their success, emphasizing the teamwork that led to their triumph.

After receiving their medals, Stoecker and her teammate Amelia Coltman reflected on the significance of their achievement and the bond they shared as a team. Weston highlighted the importance of their team victory and the inspiration it could provide to future athletes.
