“Swiss Police Apprehend Suspect in Fatal Party Shooting”

Swiss authorities announced the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a party in Aarau over the weekend. The incident resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Italian woman and left five others injured during the early hours of Sunday at a venue located at a covered horse racing track.

Following an extensive operation, the Swiss police arrested the 43-year-old Swiss man on suspicion of carrying out the attack just before 1 a.m. on Monday. Law enforcement in the canton of Aargau stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances, background, and potential motive behind the incident, with the current belief being that a lone perpetrator was involved.

Authorities are exploring three possible motives for the shooting, including the possibility of a mass shooting, an act of terrorism, or an unknown criminal intent. Cartridges recovered at the crime scene indicated the use of two different bullet calibers, potentially from a handgun and a larger weapon, which could be an assault rifle according to the police.

While the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger suggested that the cartridges found resembled those used in the Russian AK-74 assault rifle and its variations, the police refrained from confirming this information. The victim, identified as Maria Spinelli by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, tragically lost her life in the violent incident.
