Atlético Madrid has secured a loan deal for Canadian striker Jonathan David from Juventus in Italy for the upcoming season, as confirmed by both clubs. The 26-year-old hailing from Ottawa had an impressive season with Juventus, appearing in 46 matches and scoring eight goals, alongside one appearance at the beginning of the current season.
David will be vying for playing time in Madrid against Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth, who have been sidelined due to a muscle injury at the start of the season. Before his move to Juventus in 2025, David notably scored 109 goals in 232 games for Lille in France, clinching the Ligue 1 title and the French Super Cup.
As Canada’s leading men’s scorer with 42 goals, David will also be joining Atlético Ottawa, his hometown team in the Canadian Premier League. Atlético Madrid is set to face Athletic Club on Saturday and Liverpool in the Champions League on September 9 in their upcoming matches.
