A courageous woman recently shared her harrowing ordeal of being abducted by a vicious gang with intentions to sell her virginity and organs. Lurata Lyon revealed the traumatizing experience of being held captive, witnessing other girls being assaulted, and escaping the clutches of her captors.
Now aged 45, Lurata’s nightmarish saga began when she fled her hometown in Serbia at 17 to evade the violence in Yugoslavia during the 1990s. After escaping an ethnic cleansing squad, she sought refuge with the Red Cross in Kosovo but was betrayed by a local who alerted a human trafficking gang that kidnapped her.
Forced into a horrific ordeal, Lurata faced threats of being sold to the highest bidder and being forced into prostitution. She endured constant threats with a gun to her head and witnessed unspeakable acts of violence. Despite facing immense danger, she found a moment of opportunity and managed to escape her captors.
Rescued by a UN police officer, Lurata eventually returned home only to face further hardships at the hands of more assailants. However, a stroke of luck came when her father, a local doctor, orchestrated her escape from captivity, allowing her to seek asylum in the UK.
After becoming a British citizen, Lurata penned her memoir “Unbroken: Surviving Human Trafficking,” expressing gratitude for the support she received and highlighting the importance of resilience in the face of adversity. Today, she is a motivational speaker and public speaking coach in the UK, sharing her inspiring story of survival and resilience.
