Summer McIntosh clinched her first-ever Pan Pacific swimming victory by securing a gold medal in the women’s 400-meter individual medley in Irvine, California. She set a championship record time of four minutes, 28.01 seconds, outperforming Australia’s Jenna Forrester, who took silver. Agostina Hein from Argentina claimed the bronze medal.
McIntosh expressed her excitement after her win, mentioning her determination to perform well following her silver medal in the 200 freestyle event. Despite feeling she could have done better in the medley, McIntosh was pleased to have finished first.
In the women’s 4×200 freestyle relay, McIntosh contributed to Team Canada’s bronze medal along with her teammates Mary-Sophie Harvey, Emma O’Croinin, and Brooklyn Douthwright. The Canadians finished third behind Australia and the United States, with a time of 7:52.74.
Additionally, Taylor Ruck from Kelowna, British Columbia, secured a fifth-place finish in the women’s 100 freestyle event. Meg Harris of Australia won the race, with Ruck also excelling in the women’s 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke events.
Alexanne Lepage from the University of Calgary achieved a personal best time in the women’s 100 breaststroke, narrowly missing the Canadian record. Sophie Angus, another Canadian swimmer, delivered a strong performance in the same event.
Various other Canadian swimmers, including Ingrid Wilm, Oliver Dawson, Javier Acevedo, and relay teams, showcased their skills and determination at the Pan Pacific Championships, aiming for further success in the future.
