Legendary snooker commentator John Virgo, recognized as the sport’s iconic voice, has passed away at the age of 79. Virgo, originally from Salford, achieved success as a player, winning the UK Championship in 1979. He resided in Spain and his demise was confirmed by World Seniors Snooker chairman Jason Francis on social media.

Virgo, beloved for his entertaining commentary, had a lasting impact on the sport and was a loyal and cherished friend to many.
