A warning from a Russian nationalist politician has been directed towards Europe amidst the urgency to respond to the recent threats made by the US President. Aleksey Zhuravlev, aged 63, expressed his belief that leaders like Donald Trump, whom he perceives as viewing himself as superior, have historically been detrimental to the world. He suggested that in the event of a conflict with the US, Europe would seek protection from Russia.
The situation unfolded after Trump reiterated the US’s interest in Greenland for national security reasons. Meanwhile, EU chief Ursula von der Leyen affirmed that Greenland’s sovereignty belongs to its people and mentioned discussions with Denmark on the matter.
Zhuravlev took to Telegram to emphasize that Trump’s statements should not be dismissed lightly, pointing out the US President’s actions concerning Venezuela and Greenland. He criticized Trump’s perceived arrogance and emphasized the potential dangers posed by leaders with such grandiose ambitions.
As the deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s defense committee, Zhuravlev previously suggested supplying nuclear-capable Russian missiles to Venezuela and Cuba. His recent remarks included advocating for a strong response to the US’s actions, such as the capture of a Russian-flagged oil tanker. Zhuravlev expressed readiness for decisive actions, including the use of nuclear weapons, if necessary.
