Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to make a historic bid this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a month after registering for the World Seniors Snooker Championship.
Despite being 50 years old, O’Sullivan continues to be a fierce competitor on the snooker tour and will face off against players now active in the senior circuit. He aims to clinch the championship for an unprecedented eighth time this spring, marking his 34th consecutive appearance at the World Championship.
O’Sullivan will extend his stay in Yorkshire to participate in the senior tournament, commencing on May 6 and spanning five days. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has confirmed O’Sullivan’s inclusion, highlighting him as a highly successful and captivating figure in the sport.
Joining O’Sullivan at the event are other world champions such as Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty, alongside notable players like Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, and Tony Drago, among others.
Chairman Jason Francis expressed enthusiasm about O’Sullivan’s debut at the Crucible in May, anticipating an increase in ticket sales due to the champion’s participation. Following the 2025 World Championship, the World Snooker Tour revised rules to allow professional players aged 45 or older within the top 64 rankings to compete in the veterans’ circuit.
With seven world titles under his belt, O’Sullivan seeks to add another trophy to his collection after his last victory in 2022, matching Stephen Hendry’s record. Hendry, on the other hand, has voiced his support for O’Sullivan’s pursuit of an eighth title, emphasizing the significance of his own early triumphs in the sport.
In a recent World Snooker Tour podcast, Hendry expressed pride in his achievements and expressed his preference for O’Sullivan to secure an eighth world title, acknowledging the exceptional talent required to achieve such success at a young age.
