Markham is gearing up for an exciting weekend as it hosts the NTT IndyCar Series, along with other motorsports events, for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy. This marks the first time the race will be held outside of Toronto, featuring a brand-new track layout spanning 3.52 kilometers with 12 turns.
To reach the venue, attendees are encouraged to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or drive via Highway 407, with parking available west of the event grounds. Metrolinx is enhancing service on the Stouffville Line to facilitate transportation to and from the track.
Additional trips from Union Station to Unionville GO have been added for the event, along with increased York Region Transit services and shuttle services provided by Markham between parking lots and the event site.
Residents have experienced construction impacts leading up to the event, with road closures in Markham Centre affecting Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard until Monday morning. Some roads will continue to be impacted until August 27 for track dismantling.
The main event on Sunday will feature the IndyCar race, where Alex Palou, the current points leader, is favored to win. Notable drivers to watch include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay. Local talent like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also compete in support series races.
Drivers are adjusting to the new Markham track layout, highlighting its smooth surface and unknown challenges. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are available on the event website, while Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions are free to attend as part of Fan Friday, with donations to Make-A-Wish Canada encouraged upon entry.
