Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew advises consumers to refrain from purchasing American liquor if it makes a comeback on Canadian store shelves. Negotiations between Canadian and U.S. officials are progressing to prevent new U.S. tariffs on around $30 billion worth of Canadian goods. During discussions on Wednesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney and his team engaged with cabinet members and provincial leaders to finalize the potential agreement.
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston mentioned that Carney urged provinces to reintroduce American alcohol in stores. However, Kinew stated during a press briefing on Thursday that Manitoba has not yet agreed to this request. If Manitoba does decide to restock U.S. products at Liquor Marts as part of a trade deal, Kinew encourages Canadians to opt for Canadian-made alternatives instead of purchasing the American liquor.
Kinew emphasized the importance of sending a clear message by boycotting American liquor to demonstrate disapproval of President Donald Trump’s trade tactics towards Canada.
