“Man Visits Ex Who Killed Their 5 Kids”

A man has shared the reasons behind his ongoing visits to his former spouse, despite the tragic event where she took the lives of their five children.

Back in June 2001, Rusty Yates, a NASA engineer, left for work as usual at the Johnson Space Centre, unaware of the horrific events unfolding at his family home. His wife, Andrea Yates, who was struggling with severe postpartum psychosis and schizophrenia, waited for him to depart before committing a devastating act.

She tragically drowned their five children, Noah, John, Paul, Luke, and Mary, in their home bathtub before covering them with a sheet. After alerting emergency services, she called Rusty to return home, confessing to the unthinkable crime upon his arrival.

This incident marked one of the most shocking cases in American history, leading to Andrea Yates facing five counts of capital murder. Despite prosecutors seeking the death penalty, her defense argued that due to her severe mental health issues, she required mental health treatment over imprisonment.

Following her initial conviction for capital murder in 2002, Yates later was found not guilty by reason of insanity after a retrial in 2006. Presently, she resides at a mental health facility in Kerrville, Texas, where she reportedly continues to express delusional thoughts regarding the tragic event.

Rusty Yates, who divorced Andrea in 2005, maintains a relationship with her, visiting her once a year and keeping in touch through text and phone calls. In an interview, he expressed their ability to reminisce about their shared past and recalled Andrea as a loving and devoted person, despite the tragic circumstances.
