John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, and filmmakers to influence the festival’s future direction.
Commencing on October 1, Tory’s term was confirmed in a recent news release. This year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of chair since 2021 and commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing his enduring pride in contributing to the festival’s journey.
In addition to the chairmanship change, TIFF welcomed three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch EchevarrÃa. Simultaneously, Asha Daniere, who had been on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF extended its gratitude for Daniere’s long-standing service and dedication to the organization.
