The lineup for the upcoming season of the TV series “Heated Rivalry” is expanding with the addition of three new cast members. The Canadian-produced hockey drama, which gained international popularity in its first season, has brought on board Ukrainian-American actress Milla Jovovich, Canadian actor Kevin Zegers, and Canadian talent Paul Gross for the second season.
Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” franchise and “The Fifth Element,” will be joining the cast. Zegers, originally from Woodstock, Ont., has appeared in various TV series and films such as “Gossip Girl” and “Transamerica.” Gross, a well-known figure in Canadian film and television, is recognized for his work in projects like “Due South” and “Men With Brooms.”
The series, inspired by Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” book series, centers around the clandestine relationship between two rival hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Gross will portray the hockey league commissioner, Roger Crowell, while Zegers will play Coach Wiebe of the Ottawa Centaurs, the team Rozanov will be associated with in the new season. Jovovich will take on the role of Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist aiding Rozanov.
In addition to these new cast members, returning actors from Season 1 such as Robbie G.K. and Sophie Nélisse are also set to reprise their roles. The second season will also feature a lineup of Canadian talent, including Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka.
Filming for the second season has already commenced, with a scheduled premiere on Crave in the spring of 2027. Despite its success, “Heated Rivalry” will not be eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmys, though it has received accolades at the Canadian Screen Awards, winning in categories like best drama and best lead performer.
