“Halifax Duo Charged in String of Thefts and Robbery”

A man and a woman have been charged with multiple offenses following a string of thefts, a robbery, and reckless driving incidents in and around the Halifax area. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) initiated an investigation after a woman stole fuel from a gas station in Fall River, N.S., driving a Honda Civic in late July. Subsequently, a Civic was reported stolen, and it was discovered that a man and a woman had borrowed the vehicle in July and failed to return it.

In the following weeks, there were reports of thefts from various businesses in Lower Sackville, Fall River, Upper Tantallon, Bedford, Hubbards, and Greenwood, with a woman being identified as the suspect in each case. The suspect was often seen leaving the scene in the stolen vehicle. Despite multiple attempts by the police to conduct traffic stops, the vehicle managed to evade them each time.

During one of the pursuits on August 11, police found a man and a woman asleep in the stolen vehicle at a convenience store in Rawdon Gold Mines. When officers tried to arrest them, the driver reversed the stolen vehicle into a police car and then fled at a high speed. Later, on August 14, a robbery occurred at a business in Upper Tantallon where a man and a woman filled a shopping cart with items and left without paying.

A nearby officer promptly responded, witnessing the pair loading the stolen goods into a Honda Civic. When the officer tried to apprehend the woman, she fled in the vehicle, narrowly missing hitting a store employee who attempted to intervene. The man and woman were apprehended in Falmouth, N.S., with the stolen car being recovered in the Windsor area.

The 33-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, both from Dartmouth, appeared in Halifax provincial court this week. The woman is facing charges including robbery, resisting arrest, dangerous operation of a conveyance, fleeing from a police officer, theft of a motor vehicle, theft, and possession of stolen property. The man is charged with robbery, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, and theft of a motor vehicle. Both individuals are scheduled to appear in court again next week.
