A new player has emerged in the UK TV market, challenging the dominance of Sky and Freeview. Freely, launched in 2024, has quickly gained popularity by attracting over one million households to switch to its platform. Offering more than 50 live channels without the need for an aerial or dish, Freely has continued to enhance its features and content since its introduction.
The latest development from Freely is the introduction of Freely Spotlight Channels, which will provide additional entertainment to viewers at no extra cost. These new channels will be accessible via a standard Wi-Fi connection and will be featured on channel 31, as well as channels 90 to 99. V, the company behind the VIDAA OS smart TV platform used in Hisense televisions, has been announced as the launch partner for the Freely Spotlight Channels, bringing a curated selection of channels to the Freely TV Guide.
The integration of the Freely Spotlight Channels alongside established UK broadcasters in the TV guide aims to offer selected channels more visibility and credibility within the regulated UK TV landscape. While specific content details are yet to be disclosed, more information is expected as the launch date approaches.
Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, Deep Halder, expressed the company’s commitment to providing long-term value to users and partners through the Freely platform. Emphasizing the importance of making free, trusted TV easily accessible in the streaming era, Halder highlighted the opportunities created for CTV OS partners through the new Spotlight Channels initiative.
For those unfamiliar with Freely, it is managed by the same team responsible for Freeview and Freesat. Setting itself apart by delivering all content through broadband connections, Freely eliminates the need for traditional aerials or satellite dishes. Users only require a compatible TV or set-top box and a stable Wi-Fi connection to access its offerings, which include over 50 live channels, on-demand content, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live television.
