An Iranian student was fatally shot in the head and buried by the roadside after participating in protests against the Iranian regime following her textiles class at Shariati College in Tehran.
The body of Rubina Aminian, a 23-year-old student, was discovered buried next to a deserted road over the weekend, following her disappearance after the Thursday protests. Iran Human Rights reported that she was shot at close range in the back of the head.
When her parents traveled from Kermanshah to Tehran to identify her body, they observed numerous other young individuals who had been similarly killed, according to the group.
Activists stated that the death toll from the crackdown on nationwide protests in Iran had risen to at least 538 people, with over 10,600 individuals detained. Among the casualties, 490 were protesters, while 48 were members of the security forces. The U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency warned that the toll could increase further due to challenges in monitoring the situation with internet and phone disruptions in Iran.
The Iranian government has not provided an official count of casualties from the demonstrations. Despite President Donald Trump’s threats against the regime for using violence on protestors, no action has been taken.
Iran’s parliament speaker issued a warning that the U.S. military and Israel would be considered “legitimate targets” if the U.S. carried out strikes on the Islamic Republic in response to the ongoing protests. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf made this statement as protests challenging Iran’s theocracy continued, with at least 203 deaths reported due to the violence surrounding the demonstrations.
Concerns have been raised that the information blackout in Iran is empowering hard-liners within the country’s security services to launch a severe crackdown on protestors. Trump expressed support for the protesters, indicating that the U.S. is prepared to assist Iran in seeking freedom. Reports suggested that military options for a strike on Iran had been presented to Trump, but a final decision had not been made.
