“Expert Tests Winter Travel Deals: Luxury Stay at 72% Off!”

Traveling in winter can lead to significant cost savings, but there are potential downsides to consider. Chelsea Dickenson, a well-known Holiday Expert, recently tested a luxury Turkish resort through TravelSupermarket. She booked a seven-night stay at the 5-star AKKA Antedon in Antalya for £489 per person in January, which would typically cost £1,729 per person in August, resulting in a 72% discount.

Chelsea, the resident travel expert for ITV’s This Morning, wanted to explore the value of these discounted winter holidays. She spent a week examining various aspects of the resort, from the amenities to the entertainment, to assess if the savings were worthwhile.

Here are the key findings from her experience:

Despite the main outdoor pool being closed, another large outdoor pool and a heated indoor pool were available for guests. The aquapark operated daily, unlike some other high-end hotels in Antalya that close their aquaparks during winter.

The beach lacked parasols and cabanas, but guests could still enjoy loungers on the decking. The sea was cold but swimmable for some, although water sports were not available during this season.

The hotel’s gym and spa facilities were accessible throughout the day, offering a range of amenities including an indoor pool, jacuzzi, saunas, and relaxation areas. The kids’ club and outdoor play area provided entertainment for younger guests.

Regarding dining options, the main buffet restaurant served a variety of dishes, while the patisserie and snack bar offered limited but convenient choices. Only one à la carte restaurant was open in winter compared to six in peak season.

The weather ranged from 12 to 19°C with occasional rain, providing a comfortable outdoor experience. The hotel organized winter activities such as fishing and hiking, aiming to keep guests engaged despite the season.

While the outdoor entertainment area remained closed, live music performances and a disco bar were available each night. The hotel’s ambiance varied, with a busier atmosphere during Russian Christmas holidays and a quieter setting afterward.

Chelsea noted that despite certain limitations, the winter stay at the hotel offered substantial savings and a luxurious experience. Guests trading warm weather for discounted rates could find this type of off-peak holiday appealing.

The hotel has been approached for additional comments.
