“Decade Later: Murderer Convicted After Victim’s Chilling Deathbed Video”

A full decade has elapsed since Don Collins was convicted of murder, prompted by a distressing deathbed video where his victim identified him and revealed his chilling motive.

Collins committed a brutal act against his neighbor, Robbie Middleton, on his eighth birthday. What should have been a joyful occasion turned into a nightmare when Collins bound Robbie to a tree, doused him in petrol, and set him on fire.

Despite suffering burns over 99% of his body, Robbie miraculously held on for more than ten years before succumbing to skin cancer caused by the severe burns.

In February 2015, Collins was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Colleen, Robbie’s mother, noted her unease with Collins even before the tragic incident, mentioning his cold and expressionless demeanor.

As we near the 11th year since justice was served, we revisit this profoundly disturbing case.

Robbie, the youngest of three children to Colleen and Bobby, was known for his love of birthdays. On June 28, 1998, he eagerly started his special day with a new tent gift and planned to celebrate with family in Splendora, Texas.

However, Collins, who had allegedly assaulted Robbie previously, encountered him on his way home and carried out a horrific act fueled by fear of exposure.

Despite severe burns, Robbie managed to make it home where his mother found him in a devastating state. With burns covering most of his body, only the soles of his feet were spared.

Robbie underwent numerous surgeries and skin grafts, defying the odds and living for another decade. His positive outlook, despite his disfigurement, inspired his family.

Tragically, Robbie passed away in April 2011 at the age of 20, just 17 days after exposing Collins in a video where he detailed the assault.

Collins, who was already imprisoned for prior offenses, faced murder charges following the emergence of the incriminating video. Witnesses came forward during the trial, alleging further heinous acts committed by Collins.

After receiving the maximum 40-year sentence, Colleen expressed relief and belief that Robbie had found peace. The family was awarded $150 billion in a civil case against Collins, symbolically acknowledging their loss and suffering.

Colleen, reflecting on the award, emphasized the importance of recognizing Robbie’s innocence and the impact of his tragic death.
