“Death Toll Rises in Iran Protests, Trump Halts Talks”

The death toll from protests against the Iranian government has risen once more, leading to United States President Donald Trump halting talks with Iranian officials in response to the violent crackdown on demonstrators.

Beginning in December due to economic hardships, protests in Iran shifted focus towards overthrowing the longstanding Mullah regime. Visuals from international media depicted Tehran covered in graffiti with calls for the demise of 86-year-old supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Despite facing armed forces with guns, protesters continued their demonstrations, with reports of body bags at morgues in Tehran. The death toll has climbed to at least 2,571, including 2,403 protesters and 147 government-related individuals, with over 18,100 detentions.

This death toll surpasses any previous unrest in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The Human Rights Activists News Agency highlighted the shockingly high toll, cautioning that the number could be higher.

President Trump urged Iranians to persist in their protests, emphasizing the need to cease violence against protesters before resuming discussions with Iranian officials. Trump warned of potential consequences if Iran proceeds with executing demonstrators, referencing a planned execution of a protest participant, Erfan Soltani.

In response, Iranian officials cautioned against US intervention, suggesting retaliatory measures if action is taken. The situation remains tense as both sides navigate the escalating crisis.
