“Marine Veteran Fatally Shot in Facebook Marketplace Deal Gone Wrong”

A tragic incident unfolded as a man was fatally shot at his residence while attempting to sell an iPhone through a Facebook Marketplace transaction he believed was legitimate. The victim, identified as Michael Ryan Burke, a 42-year-old U.S. Marine veteran, utilized his final moments to alert authorities and bid farewell to his family. The Columbia Police Department confirmed the unfortunate event, stating that Burke was found inside his Missouri home with critical gunshot wounds after a reported shooting at Ridgemont Court in Columbia around 8:15pm.

Despite sustaining severe injuries, Burke managed to contact emergency services and provide a description of his assailants before succumbing to his wounds at the hospital. Subsequently, three 18-year-olds and one juvenile male were arrested by authorities on January 20 in connection with the fatal incident. They were charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary, and are currently detained without bond.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Burke had been communicating with one of the suspects through Facebook messages to arrange the sale of his iPhone 15 Pro, valued at approximately $585. The suspect had confirmed arrival at Burke’s residence shortly before the tragic event unfolded. Friends described Burke as a selfless individual who prioritized his loved ones, exemplified by his final messages expressing love and ensuring justice for those involved.

The suspects’ legal representation remains undisclosed, and the case continues to be under investigation by authorities.
