“Daughter Neglects Elderly Father, Faces Severe Injury Charges”

A 42-year-old woman, Misty McDaniel, has been arrested in Knox County, Tennessee, for allegedly severely neglecting her elderly father, resulting in serious bodily harm. Court documents claim that her father suffered from pressure ulcerations that led to his vertebrae protruding through his skin, as well as untreated bed sores. This neglect occurred over a period of six months, during which the 74-year-old man, who had been bed-bound following a stroke a decade ago, developed these severe health issues.

McDaniel’s father was hospitalized with dangerously high blood sugar levels, which could have triggered a life-threatening condition known as Diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. Medical staff reported finding pressure ulcers and bed sores on his body, prompting his admission to a critical care unit for multiple surgeries and wound treatments to remove necrotic tissue.

Despite both Misty McDaniel and her husband serving as caregivers, they allegedly failed to seek medical attention for the elderly man’s deteriorating health. Upon examination at the hospital, it was discovered that the father had not been receiving his necessary diabetes medication, resulting in exposed muscles and bones, including three vertebrae. Additionally, authorities found a stash of blood sugar medication in their home that had not been administered to the father.

Misty McDaniel was charged with aggravated neglect of an elderly or vulnerable adult leading to severe bodily injury on January 17. The case highlights the importance of proper care for elderly family members and the serious consequences of neglecting their medical needs.
