Jenny Agutter, known for her role as Sister Julienne in “Call The Midwife,” recently shared an update on her health as the new series prepares to return. Despite being in good health before the 2020 Christmas special, she was unexpectedly hit by shingles, causing ongoing discomfort even five years later.
In an interview with Woman’s Weekly Magazine, Jenny described the lingering effects of shingles as an itchy and bruised sensation on one side of her face, extending across her eyebrow and forehead. Despite this, she expressed gratitude for her overall well-being, mentioning her ability to enjoy daily activities and food, although she humorously noted the inevitable creaks and groans that accompany getting out of bed in the morning.
Reflecting on her shingles experience, Jenny revealed the pain and challenges she faced during that time, attributing it possibly to stress, a common trigger for the condition. She recounted the nerve-related symptoms she endured, including a rash, pain in her head, and sensitivity to light for an extended period.
According to NHS guidelines, shingles typically manifests as a rash on one side of the body, with common areas being the chest, tummy, face, eyes, and genitals. If someone suspects they have shingles, seeking advice from a pharmacist or contacting NHS 111 is recommended.
As Jenny celebrated her 73rd birthday in December following the completion of filming for the latest series of “Call The Midwife,” she expressed her ongoing enthusiasm for work, emphasizing the joy she finds in collaborative projects and on-set experiences.
The new season of “Call The Midwife” is set in 1971, featuring storylines that touch on Women’s Lib themes, with the premiere episode scheduled to air tonight at 8 pm on BBC One.
