Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Barbora Krejcikova from Czechia have progressed to the next round of the Cincinnati Open. They secured a victory over the fourth-seeded team of Cristina Bucsa from Spain and Nicole Melichar-Martinez from the United States with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 in the Round of 32 of the women’s doubles event. This tournament marks the first time Dabrowski and Krejcikova have teamed up. Their next opponents in the Round of 16 on Tuesday will be the unseeded Czech pair of Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova.
Later on Monday, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, and her partner Sara Errani from Italy faced off against Romania’s Sorana Cirstea and Mira Andreeva from Russia. Fernandez, who was defeated by China’s Xiyu Wang in the women’s singles tournament’s second round on Sunday, aimed to make a comeback in the doubles event.
