The Chatham-Kent Police Service has announced charges against multiple individuals following a violent home invasion that included subsequent threats against the victims and witnesses. The incident took place in Chatham on August 10, leading to a report received by the police.
According to authorities, a group forcibly entered a residence by breaking the front door, physically assaulting occupants, and stealing belongings. Among the victims, a 16-year-old faced threats with a knife, while a 19-year-old was subjected to assault, strangulation, and death threats.
Through witness testimonies and surveillance footage analysis, investigators were able to identify the individuals involved. Following the incident, one of the accused allegedly used social media on August 13 to threaten the victims and the residence. This threat was made after learning about the police’s pursuit of his arrest.
The police have formally charged two 22-year-old men from Chatham with offenses including break and enter, armed robbery, assault, and disguise with intent. Additionally, one of the 22-year-olds faces charges of assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats, while the other is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
Furthermore, a 19-year-old woman from Chatham has been charged with break and enter, armed robbery (as a party to the offense), and assault (as a party to the offense). The police have also charged three more young offenders in connection with the incident.
