Court Orders Disclosure of Hidden Details on Nazi Collaborators

The Federal Court has mandated the disclosure of previously hidden sections from a study dated September 1986, commissioned for a significant federal inquiry on war crimes. In a recent public announcement, Federal Court Justice Simon Fothergill has instructed the government to reveal redacted segments from the study concerning the resettlement of suspected Nazi war criminals in Canada post-World War II.

For years, B’nai Brith Canada has been advocating for access to more information from the report authored by researcher Alti Rodal. In response to an information request from B’nai Brith, Library and Archives Canada released additional excerpts from the report in February 2024. However, certain parts, including details discussing the involvement of American intelligence agencies in aiding the relocation of Nazi collaborators in Canada, were still withheld.

In his decision, Fothergill dismissed the government’s claim that divulging specific details would negatively impact Canada’s international relations.
