Brighton & Hove Albion Secures Canadian Striker Promise David

Brighton & Hove Albion has made a significant signing by bringing in Canadian striker Promise David on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The deal, announced on Tuesday, involves an obligation to purchase David for a reported fee of $29.7 million US if specific conditions are met. Union Saint-Gilloise has confirmed that David will be moving to the Premier League starting from the upcoming season for a record fee for the club.

David, who recently extended his contract through June 2029, arrives at Brighton following a successful two-year stint at Union Saint-Gilloise, where he scored 41 goals in 82 matches and played a key role in the club securing its first league title in 90 years back in 2025. The 25-year-old also represented Canada at the latest World Cup, contributing one goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team, David made the switch from representing Nigeria to Canada in 2025 after receiving approval from FIFA following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch.

Having previously plied his trade in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia, David’s move to Brighton marks the next chapter in his diverse career. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed his excitement about the signing, highlighting David’s prowess as a goal-scorer with valuable international and European experience. The club, which finished eighth in the Premier League last season, sees David’s arrival as a boost to their squad as they aim to continue their run in England’s top flight.
