An American model named Ginger Meadows, inspired by the movie ‘Crocodile Dundee’, embarked on a trip to Australia’s Outback to experience its rugged beauty firsthand. Tragically, her journey took a deadly turn. Hailing from Snowmass Village, Colorado, a renowned ski destination, Ginger and her friend Jane Burchett ventured to King’s Cascade on the luxury boat Lady G on March 29, 1987, before heading to Papua New Guinea.
Despite warnings about the presence of crocodiles, Ginger and Jane decided to swim in the waters near the waterfall. A massive saltwater crocodile approached them, trapping them against the waterfall. In a desperate attempt to fend off the crocodile, Jane threw her shoe at it, but Ginger was eventually overpowered and dragged underwater by the predator.
Ginger’s body was discovered the next day, on what would have been her 25th birthday. The police from Port of Broome detailed the harrowing retrieval process, where a crocodile attempted to attack the body bag containing her remains. Dwayne McCaulley, Ginger’s estranged husband, identified her body, recalling how he had warned her about the dangers of the crocodile-infested waters.
Ginger Meadows’ tragic death stands as one of the most notorious crocodile attacks in Australian history. Data from Charles Darwin University revealed that between 1979 and 2022, there were 76 crocodile attacks in the Northern Territory, with a concerning 30% fatality rate.
