After receiving critical acclaim for his role in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, Elliot Page shared that he has not been approached for any new acting opportunities. Page disclosed this information during a recent interview on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy. Despite his standout performance as Sinon, a Greek soldier in the film, Page admitted to not receiving the expected flood of casting calls following the movie’s success.
Reflecting on the uproar caused by rumors linking him to the role of Achilles and the subsequent transphobic backlash, Page humorously mentioned the confusion surrounding his Canadian identity. He experienced unwarranted scrutiny from right-wing figures like Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Elon Musk, who stirred controversy over potential casting choices. However, it was later clarified that Page portrayed a different character in the film, leading to ridicule of the initial uproar.
Page, who has been acting since childhood, is renowned for his roles in Juno, Inception, and Hard Candy, earning an Oscar nomination for the former. In a bold move, Page publicly came out as transgender in 2020 and has since been a vocal advocate against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and discriminatory policies in both the U.S. and Canada.
Despite the industry challenges, Page expressed eagerness to continue acting, emphasizing newfound confidence post-transition. He believes that shedding the discomfort of his pre-transition self has opened doors to deliver his best performances yet. Reflecting on his collaboration with Nolan on Inception, where he played a female character, Page conveyed personal growth and fulfillment from his recent role in The Odyssey.
Notably, Page is not the only actor from the Nolan film facing a post-success lull in casting opportunities. Samantha Morton, who played Circe in The Odyssey, disclosed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that she has not secured work since the movie’s release. Morton, aged 49, acknowledged the industry’s evolving dynamics and the fierce competition among talented actors in the current landscape.
