In Fort Smith, N.W.T., a person suspected of perpetrating a “mass shooting” as per the RCMP has been apprehended. The arrest took place around 4:30 a.m. MT on Sunday, according to an RCMP statement. The individual is expected to face charges following ongoing investigations.
The incident unfolded during the early hours of Saturday, coinciding with the conclusion of the Fireweed Festival’s opening festivities. A confrontation erupted in the parking lot of the local establishment, Dirty O’Fergies, leading to gunshots that wounded three individuals. Subsequently, the community was placed on lockdown, enduring a shelter-in-place directive that lasted more than 13 hours.
