Canada Dominates New Zealand, Advances to FIBA Tournament Final

Canada emerged victorious over New Zealand with a score of 86-71 in the semifinal of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament held in Guadalajara. Throughout the game, Canada maintained the lead for almost 32 minutes and extended their advantage to 30 points during the third quarter.

Key players Syla Swords and Delaney Gibb each contributed 17 points, while Jasmine Bascoe added 15 points, eight assists, and four rebounds, leading Canada to secure a spot in the final. Swords displayed remarkable efficiency, shooting 6-for-8 from the field and a flawless 5-for-5 from three-point range.

In the upcoming final match against host Mexico, Canada will vie for the tournament title and a chance to progress to the next stage of Olympic qualification. Mexico earned their spot in the final by defeating Brazil in the opposing semifinal game.

Having previously defeated Mexico 70-64 in the group stage, Canada is set for a rematch in the championship game. The ultimate tournament winner will secure a place in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments scheduled for February 2028.
