“Brooke Henderson Chasing Third CPKC Women’s Open Title”

Brooke Henderson is in contention at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton, with room to make a move. The defending champion from Smiths Falls, Ontario, is aiming for her third victory at Canada’s LPGA tournament. She carded a 68 in the second round on Friday, placing her at 5-under par. Henderson currently trails the leader, Soo Bin Joo of South Korea, by four strokes, with Joo sitting at 9 under at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton.

Henderson was at 7 under before encountering some difficulties with two back-nine bogeys. During one tee shot, she inadvertently hit a spectator after her ball drifted left. Henderson promptly apologized to the woman and offered her a golf ball as a gesture.

Aphrodite Deng from Calgary, last year’s low amateur in Mississauga, finished her round strongly with consecutive birdies, shooting a 67 to reach 3 under.

In this $2.75-million US event, the top 65 players and those tied with them will advance to the next rounds. Canadian teenagers Anna Huang from Vancouver and Michelle Xing from Richmond Hill, Ontario, who started the day at 5 under, had afternoon tee times and were looking to maintain their positions close to the leaderboard.
