Five individuals were transported to the hospital with critical injuries following a three-vehicle collision in Elgin County on Thursday evening, as confirmed by the Ontario Provincial Police. The incident occurred at the intersection of John Wise Line and Fairview Road around 6:15 p.m.
OPP Constable Jeff Beaumaster, in a video shared from the scene, expressed regret over the collision at the mentioned intersection. The crash involved a pickup truck and an SUV colliding first, subsequently hitting another SUV stationary at the intersection.
Beaumaster stated that the initial SUV, carrying five occupants, was involved in the collision, leading to all five individuals being taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The three occupants of the pickup truck were also hospitalized but with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. The occupants of the second SUV did not require hospitalization and are believed to have sustained minor injuries.
The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident. The affected intersection is anticipated to remain closed for an extended period while investigators conduct a thorough examination. John Wise Line is shut down from Centennial Road to Sunset Road, while Fairview Road is closed from Southdale Line to Fruit Ridge Line.
