Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are seeking assistance from scrap metal dealers following the theft of approximately $1 million worth of copper wire from a business in Lambton County. The stolen wire, stored on large spools at a company situated on Oil Springs Line in St. Clair Township, just south of Sarnia, went missing between 2 p.m. on August 15 and the morning of August 17. The perpetrators gained entry to the property by cutting open a locked gate to take the spools.
Authorities estimate the value of the stolen wire to be around $1 million. OPP is actively investigating the incident and is advising individuals in salvage businesses and recycling facilities to be vigilant for any significant amounts of copper wire. They encourage prompt reporting if any such materials are received.
Additionally, OPP is requesting information from anyone who observed suspicious behavior along Oil Springs Line, particularly between St. Clair Parkway and Greenfield Road. Individuals with dash camera or surveillance footage are urged to come forward with their recordings.
Earlier this year, Bell Canada warned both the public and the federal government about a substantial increase in copper wire theft, highlighting the potential impact on essential telecommunications services if such criminal activities persist.
