UK households relying on Freeview for television content are advised to conduct a quick retune of their equipment due to recent channel changes. While the alterations are not extensive, performing a swift reboot will ensure that TVs are updated with the latest information.
Freeview has confirmed the need for this update, stating, “On 20th May 2026, certain broadcasters will be adjusting their channel lineup.
“To keep your channels and TV Guide current, it is necessary to retune your TV.”
So, what exactly is changing, what’s new, and what’s being relocated?
Firstly, two channels are undergoing name changes. Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 will now be known as Shop Unlimited, while Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 will be replaced by Great! TV +1.
Additionally, there are alterations to channel numbers. Great! Movies will shift from channel 61 to channel 62, with Great! TV +1 assuming the former position on channel 61.
Freeview emphasized, “Channels are continuously evolving on the platform, with individual providers making decisions to relocate, add, or remove channels.
“Freeview remains committed to offering audiences a diverse and engaging content selection.”
In case the updates do not automatically appear on your TV, manual retuning of the device may be required.
To retune your TV:
• Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote
• Select “set-up,” “installation,” “update,” or a similar option
• If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000”
• Choose “first-time installation,” “factory reset,” “full retune,” or “default settings”
• Press “OK” to confirm the deletion of existing channels if requested
• The retuning process should commence automatically
• Save any newly found channels during the scan if prompted
