Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced on Friday a global recall of just over 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a seat belt issue. The recall affects Ram 1500 vehicles manufactured between 2019 and 2026 that may have a second-row center or second-row driver side seat belt buckle anchor that was not correctly attached to the vehicle’s body structure.
This issue could compromise the effectiveness of the second-row seat belt system, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants. Stellantis has reported one injury potentially linked to the recall but no fatalities.
The recall encompasses 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and approximately 75,000 outside of North America. Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by the automaker to arrange an inspection with their dealers. During the inspection, dealers will assess the attachment of the second-row center and second-row driver seat belt buckle anchor, ensuring proper attachment to the vehicle’s body.
