“Staff Shortage Forces Virtual Learning at Moosonee School”

Students at an elementary school in Moosonee, Ontario, will be commencing the new school year with virtual lessons due to a lack of staff. Tricia Stefanic Weltz, the CEO of the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, communicated to parents that the school, Bishop Belleau School, is facing challenges in establishing necessary administrative leadership and stable office staffing for safe daily operations. The school is currently in need of a principal, as indicated by job postings on the school board’s website.

Additionally, there are open positions for a temporary school secretary, an educational assistant, and a temporary educational assistant at the junior kindergarten to Grade 8 school situated in a small community near the James Bay coast. Weltz emphasized in her letter to parents that the decision to opt for virtual learning at the beginning of the school year was made after thoughtful consideration, prioritizing student safety above all else.

Despite attempts to obtain a comment from the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, CBC News did not receive a response by the given deadline.
