The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has issued a statement addressing recent comments made by Nathan Aspinall about the audience at the Saudi Arabia Darts Masters. Aspinall had suggested that not all spectators were present voluntarily during the tournament.
The event kicked off with notable players such as Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, Luke Humphries, and Aspinall competing. Following his victory over Lourence Ilagan in the first match, Aspinall shared his thoughts on the atmosphere, pointing out the unique experience of the event.
In response to Aspinall’s remarks, the PDC clarified that all attendees were enthusiastic fans, emphasizing that it was a pioneering darts event in the region, attracting many first-time live darts spectators. The organization acknowledged that the atmosphere at new markets like Saudi Arabia could differ from established darts events in Europe and the UK.
Separately, reigning world champion Littler commented on the quieter atmosphere compared to traditional venues, noting the difference but expressing satisfaction with his performance. He highlighted the need for more noise and contrasted the experience with louder venues he was accustomed to.
The PDC affirmed that all spectators had valid tickets or were invited guests and expressed delight at the strong interest in the PDC’s debut in Saudi Arabia. The tournament continues to draw attention from fans and players alike, setting a new precedent in the darts world.
